In simple words, every course and semester at VIT has a specific number of credits assigned to it. So, if a course is very intensive, then their credit value will also be higher.

For example, a core subject may have 4 credit points, whereas an elective could be worth only 2 points. Such a difference in credit points can significantly impact your overall CGPA.

Now, let's talk about grades! VIT University uses a pretty straightforward grading system that converts your grades into grade points, which are then used to calculate your CGPA.

So let's say you scored an 'A' in the subject; you will get 9 credit points. Similarly, if you score 'B', it will give you 8 credit points, and so on. The higher the grade you achieve, the higher the credit points you will get!

Let's walk through an example for calculating VIT GPA:

Imagine you got the grades as per the below given list:

1. Course 1: Grade "A" and 8 Credits
2. Course 2: Grade "C" and 6 Credits
3. Course 3: Grade "B" and 5 Credits
4. Course 4: Grade "B" and 7 Credits
5. Course 5: Grade "S" and 10 Credits

Calculation:

For each Course, we multiply the grade by the credits (grade × credits points) to get the total grade points.

• Course 1: (Grade A is equivalent to 9)
  9×8 = 72

• Course 2: (Grade C is equivalent to 7)
  7×6 = 42

• Course 3: (Grade B is equivalent to 8)
  8×5 = 40

• Course 4: (Grade B is equivalent to 8)
  8×7 = 56

• Course 5: (Grade S is equivalent to 10)
  10×10 = 100

Now, sum up the total grade points and the total credits:

• Total Grade Points:
  72+42+40+56+100 = 310

• Total Credits:
  8+6+5+7+10 = 36

Your VIT GPA for this semester would be 8.61!
