Learn more about VIT GPA and VIT CGPA Calculator
Hello VITians, Did you know your GPA and CGPA aren't just numbers? Yes, because these numbers influence a lot of things in your entire academic career. Your CGPA also determines your eligibility for internships, higher-paying campus placements, and recruitment.
That means having a correctly and accurately calculated GPA and CGPA is very important when you have multiple courses, different credits, and grades to juggle with, and that's where these VIT GPA Calculator and VIT CGPA Calculator come in handy.
We will be learning more about these calculators later, but first let's understand the vit grading and credit systems.
Understanding the VIT Grade Scale and Credit System
The Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) calculates the CGPA based on both grades and the number of credit points. if you are curious to know why some of your courses or semesters scored less than others, then it's because of the credits points.
Let's see how the VIT credit system and VIT grade scale work:
In simple words, every course and semester at VIT has a specific number of credits assigned to it. So, if a course is very intensive, then their credit value will also be higher.
For example, a core subject may have 4 credit points, whereas an elective could be worth only 2 points. Such a difference in credit points can significantly impact your overall CGPA.
Now, let's talk about grades! VIT University uses a pretty straightforward grading system that converts your grades into grade points, which are then used to calculate your CGPA.
Grade | S | A | B | C | D | E | F |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Points | 10 | 9 | 8 | 7 | 6 | 5 | 0 |
So let's say you scored an 'A' in the subject; you will get 9 credit points. Similarly, if you score 'B', it will give you 8 credit points, and so on. The higher the grade you achieve, the higher the credit points you will get!
Formula used in VIT CGPA Calculator
There is no special or specific formula used in VIT University, and all the students from VIT University, uses the standard formula for calculating their GPA and CGPA. which is also what we have used in our VIT GPA calculator and VIT CGPA calculator.
Formula:
Let's walk through an example for calculating VIT GPA:
Imagine you got the grades as per the below given list:
- Course 1: Grade "A" and 8 Credits
- Course 2: Grade "C" and 6 Credits
- Course 3: Grade "B" and 5 Credits
- Course 4: Grade "B" and 7 Credits
- Course 5: Grade "S" and 10 Credits
Calculation:
For each Course, we multiply the grade by the credits (grade × credits points) to get the total grade points.
-
Course 1: (Grade A is equivalent to 9)
9×8 = 72 -
Course 2: (Grade C is equivalent to 7)
7×6 = 42 -
Course 3: (Grade B is equivalent to 8)
8×5 = 40 -
Course 4: (Grade B is equivalent to 8)
8×7 = 56 -
Course 5: (Grade S is equivalent to 10)
10×10 = 100
Now, sum up the total grade points and the total credits:
-
Total Grade Points:
72+42+40+56+100 = 310 -
Total Credits:
8+6+5+7+10 = 36
Your VIT GPA for this semester would be 8.61!
